What the lantern shows.
The Hôtel de Paris opened in 1864, just as Monte-Carlo was inventing itself as Europe's playground. It stands on the Place du Casino, directly facing the Casino de Monte-Carlo, and for more than a century and a half it has been where the people inside that casino have chosen to sleep.
A multi-year renovation completed in the late 2010s added rooftop suites and a courtyard garden while keeping the Belle Époque spirit intact. Dining is taken seriously: Le Louis XV – Alain Ducasse is one of the Riviera's most celebrated tables, and the hotel's wine cellar, cut into the rock beneath the building, is the stuff of legend.
The casino across the square keeps its own etiquette — smart dress in the evening, ID at the door and a minimum age of 18. Monégasque citizens are not permitted to play, so the gaming rooms are filled with visitors.
